A beautifully layered 9-night Zimbabwe journey that begins with the energy of Victoria Falls, with a Dusty Road township dinner, a helicopter flight, and time on the Zambezi, before shifting into quietly thrilling safari days in Hwange at The Hide. Palm River Hotel sits on the banks of the Zambezi River, upstream of Victoria Falls, close enough that on clear, quiet days you can hear the falls. It is around 4 kilometres away, typically an 8 to 10 minute drive, with a complimentary shuttle running into town and to key stops like the rainforest entrance and craft markets. Days work well as a split, a Falls visit or activity in the morning, then river time and a relaxed dinner back at the hotel.
Accommodation Overview
Deluxe Rooms are designed for comfort between activities, with a private balcony facing the river and gardens, and enough space to unpack properly. A writing desk and good lighting make it easy to plan the next day, while air conditioning and a ceiling fan help keep the room comfortable in warmer months. Bathrooms are modern and practical, with an open, spacious rainfall shower and a double vanity so two guests can get ready without taking turns. Expect tea and coffee facilities, USB charging points, and a minibar with complimentary initial stocking, plus in-room dining when you want a quiet night.
Property Overview
Palm River Hotel feels like a polished riverside retreat, set in broad gardens with big shade trees and open views to the Zambezi. Design is inspired by Queenslander style, with airy spaces, timber details, and a flow between indoors and outdoors. The main restaurant has tall ceilings and sliding doors that open onto veranda dining, with cobbled paths leading down to the riverside deck. Food is easy to enjoy here, early breakfasts by the river, afternoon tea, then dinner either in the dining hall or outside under the trees. Between outings, the 34 metre infinity pool, spa, gym, and tours desk keep everything simple and well organised.
Area Overview
Victoria Falls is where the Zambezi narrows into a gorge, with rainforest footpaths and viewpoints on the Zimbabwe side, plus an easy mix of river and adventure activities nearby. The hotel’s position on the upper Zambezi gives you a calmer rhythm than a town-based stay, mornings can start on the river, then shift to the falls later. Birdlife is a real draw, Victoria Falls National Park is noted for over 450 species, and the river edge often brings close-range sightings from the deck or jetty. Seasonally, May to August tends to mean cooler mornings and earlier cruise departures, while September to April is warmer with later sunsets.

Dusty Road offers a more local, textured side of Victoria Falls, set in the heart of Chinotimba, the town’s oldest township. It is less about a formal restaurant stop and more about stepping into Zimbabwean flavour, warmth, and everyday character, with traditional dishes cooked over open fires and in cast-iron pots, surrounded by colourful recycled artwork and an atmosphere that feels lively, personal, and deeply rooted in place. It works beautifully as a relaxed cultural lunch or dinner that adds depth beyond the falls themselves.

The Hide Safari Camp is a long-established luxury tented camp on its own private concession within Hwange National Park, on the park’s eastern boundary. Built in 1992, it is known for close-up waterhole wildlife viewing, a relaxed and unpretentious atmosphere, strong guiding, and a wide activity range made possible by its private concession setting.
Accommodation Overview
There are ten deluxe tented suites, including two family chalets and two honeymoon suites. Each of the canvas tents is covered with a shade-giving thatched A-frame and has a polished concrete veranda overlooking the waterhole. En-suite bathrooms have a separate toilet cubicle, and the honeymooners even get an outside bath. There's a writer's desk and plenty of space for luggage storage. Tom's Little Hide is an additional accommodation option at one end of the main camp and consists of a beautifully decorated two-bedroom house with a dining room, an outdoor veranda, and a plunge pool. Tom's Little Hide is booked exclusively and comes with a private guide and vehicle. And for a little added romance and adventure, try a sleep-out at the Dove's Nest.
Property Overview
The Hide offers a top-class experience in an easily accessible but private concession of Hwange National Park. The accommodation is more than comfortable, and the family-operated team has pretty much perfected their product over the past two decades. Your stay here will incorporate several different activities, and the time spent in camp is sure to be restful and spoiling. Game viewing in the park is best during the dry winter months (June-October) when animals are drawn to the waterholes. That being said, there's plenty to see during the green summertime when the bush is lush and springing with new life and an abundance of birds.
Area Overview
Hwange National Park is the largest in Zimbabwe, covering an impressive 14,650 sq km, a short flight south of Victoria Falls. Over 100 species of mammals reside here, whilst almost 400 species of birds decorate the skies. Perhaps most exciting is the 40,000-strong population of tusker elephants, whose presence is world-renowned and a joy to watch day after day.
The dry season (from July to October) is the best time to visit Hwange, as large concentrations of wildlife, particularly the wonderful elephant herds. descend upon the area to drink from the waterholes to survive in this hot and unforgiving environment. Yet, whilst the rains from December to March will see the wildlife dispersing across the park, thus making them harder to spot, the summer showers also bring forth stunning vegetation. This ensures mesmeric bird-watching opportunities as the local population finds itself bolstered by the migrants coming down from the Northern Hemisphere. Hwange National Park truly is a year-round wonderland.

Changa Safari Camp is a secluded lakeside safari camp in Matusadona National Park on Lake Kariba, where bush, beach, and mountain views come together in one setting. The camp has eight luxury tents set under mopane woodland, with wide lake views, a private beach, a central pool, and a relaxed, barefoot feel that works well for couples, families, and small groups.
Accommodation Overview
The eight tented chalets are spacious and very elegantly put together. Two of them can accommodate families with kiddies' rooms joined to the master bedrooms. The walls are floor-to-ceiling mesh windows with accompanying linen curtains, giving the place a sophisticated feel. The ensuite bathroom is designed so every part of it has a view out over the lake. Outside, there is a second bathroom, complete with shower and tub, playfully adorned with bright tiles. Each room also has its own private deck with a few camp chairs and a hammock strung beneath the trees.
Property Overview
Changa sits in its own private concession with 4 km of frontage onto Lake Kariba, just east of Matusadona National Park. This area is wild and remote, well known for its big game (especially elephants, buffalo, and hippos), and is perhaps the best tiger-fishing destination in Africa. The lodge opened in 2012 and is amongst the most luxurious in this region, from the top-level service and exceptional food to the intimacy that an eight-room camp affords.
The largest artificial lake in the world, most lodges in this area are built along the shores or escarpments of Lake Kariba. The vast expanse of water is home to huge populations of hippo and crocodile, and draws super-herds of buffalo and elephant, antelope, and even big cats looking for a drink. Boating safaris are very popular, especially on a luxury cruiser, which offers the best view in the house. And don’t skip an evening of stargazing.
Boat trips on Lake Kariba are really Changa's biggest draw. You'll find great game viewing (hippos, crocs, elephants) and birdwatching (fish eagles, herons, shorebirds) on-board. Combined with tiger fishing (you might catch some bream and catfish too) and a trip to Sanyati Gorge for spectacular scenery, you have an exceptional water-oriented experience. Game drives and an informative bush walk with an expert guide, or even combine the two, as the guides are happy to get you out of the vehicle to follow tracks when the situation allows.
Area Overview
Tucked away in northern Zimbabwe and fringing the shores of one of the world’s largest man-made lakes, Matusadona National Park offers a safari unlike any other, one that unfolds across both land and water. Once a hunting reserve, Matusadona was declared a protected area in 1958. Its diverse mix of lake, grassland, and woodland habitats allows for varied wildlife sightings and consistent game viewing throughout the year.
At the heart of this safari experience is Lake Kariba, a destination where traditional game drives are complemented by boating safaris. With over 1,240 miles (2,000 kilometers) of shoreline and expansive open water, the lake adds a unique dimension to the safari experience. Boating safaris offer close-up encounters with elephants cooling off along the edge, crocodiles basking on sun-warmed sandbanks, and pods of hippos shifting in the shallows. For birders, it’s a true paradise.
Spend your morning tracking wildlife through open plains, and your afternoon drifting quietly along the lake. Lake Kariba’s iconic sunsets – fiery skies mirrored in golden water – are unforgettable moments in themselves.
